Government committed to safeguard Cyber Space in Zambia

Government says it remains keen in protecting the cyber space of the country through formulation of appropriate measures.

Minister of Transport and Communications, Brian Mushimba said government is speaking with other governments in Southern Africa in order to put in place measures that will see fast protection of the cyber space.

Mr. Mushimba cited the e-commerce, Cyber protection and data protection Act bills as some of the measures that will safe guard the country’s cyber space once they are ratified and become laws.

He made the remarks in a speech read on his behalf by Ministry of Transport and Communication Permanent Secretary (PS), Misheck Lungu at the Africa Computer Audit Control and Security International Conference in Lusaka today.

“The hosting of this conference in our Country Zambia for the very first time is an opportunity for government to continue championing the agenda of protecting the cyber space. Let me emphasize the importance of this event by calling on everyone here to share ideas on protecting the cyber space on this platform and not on social media,” he said.

Mr. Mushimba recalled that government has invested productively in the ICT sector as evidenced by the introduction of Smart Zambia Institute and the construction of mobile communication towers in different parts of the country.

Meanwhile, Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA) Zambia Chapter President, Chipo Majere said digital revolution is affecting the way information is being disseminated.

Ms. Majere said ISACA Zambia wants to work with the youths in information communications technology systems with the aim of educating them on the need to protect the cyber space.

The two days Africa Computer Audit Control and Security International Conference which closes tomorrow is being held under the theme ‘Building Business Resilience in a Digitally Connected World’.
